18+ Exempt Supported Accommodations

Continued Support Toward Full Independence

Our 18+ Exempt Service supports young people who have recently received their asylum status and are beginning life with full access to public funds. This moment often brings relief, but it also comes with pressure — new systems to understand, new decisions to make and a level of independence that can feel sudden and unfamiliar.

At Next Phase Housing, we create a steady, reassuring environment where young people can adjust at their own pace. Instead of overwhelming them with information, we guide them step by step, helping them turn their new opportunities into real progress.

What We Focus On

  • Settle confidently into their new rights and responsibilities
  • Build daily habits that bring structure, comfort and stability
  • Understand how to manage money, benefits and essential tasks
  • Explore education, work and training pathways without pressure
  • Make informed choices about long-term housing and future plans
  • Feel grounded, welcomed and included in their local community

Our role is to make this transition feel manageable, not confusing and to help each young person grow into independence with clarity, confidence and support.

Personalised Accommodation & Consistent Support

Each young person is welcomed into accommodation that reflects their needs, cultural background and long-term goals. We take time to understand routines, preferences and any specific support requirements so they feel settled from day one.

A dedicated keyworker provides consistent, familiar support, helping them manage daily living tasks, build healthy routines and feel reassured throughout their transition. This relationship creates a safe and stable foundation for genuine independence.

Life Skills, Routine & Emotional Wellbeing

We focus on strengthening the practical skills that make everyday life manageable — from budgeting and cooking to maintaining their home and understanding bills. Alongside this, we support emotional wellbeing through regular check-ins, calm routines and steady, encouraging guidance.

By combining structure with care, we help young people build confidence, reduce stress and develop the resilience needed for adulthood.

Employment, Training & Job Readiness

Our employment support helps young people prepare for meaningful opportunities with clarity and confidence. We assist them in registering with Jobcentre Plus, understanding their Universal Credit commitments, creating CVs and applications, and preparing for interviews.

We also guide them towards training courses, apprenticeships, college pathways and volunteering or part-time roles that build valuable experience. The goal is to support them towards work in a realistic, motivating and achievable way.

Applying for Long-Term Housing (Social & Private)

We guide young people through every step of their housing journey, ensuring they understand social housing applications, local authority processes and how bidding systems work.

We help them gather the right documents, explore private renting options when appropriate, and learn about tenancy rights and responsibilities. This steady, hands-on support prepares them for a smooth transition into long-term, stable accommodation.

Independent Life Skills & Daily Living

We help young people stay on top of the essential tasks that come with adulthood, including reading and responding to official letters, maintaining UC compliance and attending council, immigration or Jobcentre appointments.

Support is also provided with registering for healthcare, setting up bank accounts and managing direct debits. By guiding them through these responsibilities, we reduce overwhelm and help them stay organised, confident and in control of their daily lives.

Community Integration & Social Inclusion

We encourage young people to build meaningful connections and feel a sense of belonging within their community.

This includes helping them engage with sports activities, youth and community centres, volunteering roles, cultural or faith groups, ESOL classes and local social
